Week 10 College Football and Week 9 NFL Opening Lines – Oklahoma State -3.5 vs Oklahoma

Written By Vegas Matty

Despite suffering early season home losses, the winner of Saturday’s Oklahoma-Oklahoma State game will have a chance to gain an inside track to the BigXII Championship game.  Oddsmakers at BetOnline.AG opened the Cowboys as 3-point home favorites in the annual Bedlam rivalry game, with bettors already pushing them up to -3.5 versus the Sooners even though Oklahoma State has lost four of the past five meetings. The last win for the Pokes in this rivalry came back in 2014.

Oklahoma is currently ranked No. 8 in the country and remains the only team to beat No. 3 Ohio State. But the Sooners and Cowboys will likely need to win out in order to have an opportunity to make the Playoff. TCU’s 14-7 loss at Iowa State last Saturday has put all four schools in a four-way tie for first place in the Big 12 at 4-1, and the Horned Frogs still must visit the Sooners on November 11 in a monster matchup.

Other Week 10 college football games of note…

  • Top-ranked Alabama returns from a bye week to host LSU, opening as a 21.5-point home favorite. The Crimson Tide have won the past six meetings with a 3-0-1 mark against the spread in the last three. The Tigers are also coming off a bye and riding a three-game winning streak of their own.
  • 9 Miami hosts No. 13 Virginia Tech in a huge ACC Coastal showdown, and there has been a massive change in the betting line since the opener was released at BetOnline.AG. The undefeated Hurricanes have gone from 3.5-point home favorites to 3.5-point underdogs in early betting. Miami has won 12 in a row but is 2-6 ATS in the previous eight meetings at home against Virginia Tech. The ‘Canes have never won the Coastal Division.
  • 7 Penn State will try to rebound from its brutal loss at Ohio State as an 11-point road favorite at No. 24 Michigan State. The Nittany Lions opened at -13 and will be visiting a Spartans team that lost 39-31 to Northwestern in triple overtime last week. Both teams are tied for second in the Big Ten East behind the Buckeyes at 4-1, and Michigan State has won three of four in the series.

Shifting gears to the NFL with six more teams on byes in Week 9 of the NFL season, there aren’t too many intriguing games on paper. The most interesting matchup may be the Kansas City Chiefs visiting the Dallas Cowboys off their fourth prime-time appearance in five weeks. The Cowboys may finally have to experience life without Ezekiel Elliot if his suspension finally begins this week and expect the current line of Cowboys -1 to be on the move if that’s the case.

Kansas City has won six of its last seven games against NFC opponents with a 5-2 ATS record. Meanwhile, Dallas has won four of five versus AFC foes both straight up and ATS.  The lone loss for the Cowboys came earlier this season to the Denver Broncos, who the Chiefs host on Monday night.

Here are a couple other Week 9 NFL games worth an early look…

  • The aforementioned Broncos will be next in line to attempt to halt a league-best six-game winning streak for the Philadelphia Eagles, whose only setback came at Kansas City in Week 2. The Eagles are just 2-7 ATS in their last nine games against the AFC West, winning three of them.  Philadelphia opened as a 7 point favorite for the match-up
  • The Atlanta Falcons will finally play their first divisional game of the year when they visit the Carolina Panthers. The Falcons went 3-0 against the NFC North and then 1-3 versus the AFC East, and both they and the Panthers are chasing the New Orleans Saints for the NFC South lead. Atlanta has won the past three meetings with Carolina both SU and ATS and see themselves installed as modest 1.5 point road underdogs.
