We are in the heart of bowl season with the majority of big games coming in the following week; including the College Football Playoff matchups. One significant line move is the Virginia Cavaliers, who have gone from +6.5 down to +5 across the market. Below we have the spreads for the five games on December 29th with the opening spreads in bold, and the current number to the right. We also take a look at the NFL Week 17 opening lines, as well.
Notable College Football Opening Bowl Game Point Spreads from BetOnline.ag:
Arkansas State vs. Nevada (+1.5, +1.5)
Florida vs. Michigan (-6, -6.5)
South Carolina vs. Virginia (+6.5, +4.5)
Oklahoma vs Alabama (-14, -14-105)
Notre Dame vs. Clemson (-12, -12.5-107)
- It’s rare we tip our cap to bookmakers, but BetOnline.ag pegged both college playoff openers perfectly with the current market price virtually identical to the opens less than one week away from kickoff. The Crimson Tide opened -14 and have stayed there with minor movement on either side throughout the past three weeks. The total opened 79, rose to as high as 81.5 before we saw significant under money hit the screen and moved this number down to 77; which is most likely Tua related.
- In the 4:00pm time slot, Clemson opened -12 at BetOnline.ag, and are currently just a tick above that price at 12.5 (dead number). This number has moved all over the place, as it dropped to as low as 10.5, and as high as 13.5 before we saw it settle in at the current price. The total opened 56, and we’ve seen a small drop to 55. This game provides a fascinating matchup in the trenches on both sides of the ball.

- With Baltimore needing a win to secure a playoff berth (AFC North Champion), the Ravens opened 6.5-point home favorites against Baker Mayfield and the red-hot Cleveland Browns and since we’ve seen it drop to 5.5. Cleveland won the first meeting in overtime, and could potentially do the Steelers a huge favor by repeating that defensive performance from Week 5’s 12-9 victory.
- Tennessee and Indianapolis do battle in Nashville this weekend, with the game currently off of the board do the status of Titans QB Marcus Mariota. In Week 11, Indianapolis closed a 1-point favorite at home, and cruised to victory as Mariota was knocked out of the game at the end of the first half. The winner of this game will secure the 6th place AFC Wild Card spot.
