Week 5 College Football and Week 4 NFL Opening Point Spreads – Ohio State -4 at Penn State

Written By Billy Attridge

Last week brought about some classic endings with Stanford/Oregon and Army/Oklahoma, but Week 5 features BIG marquee matchups.  Two Top Ten contests, and an SEC battle that pits a coach against his former team, as he tries to play spoiler as a 9-point underdog.  Below are several interesting games with the opening point spreads in bold, and the current number to the right of it.

Notable College Football Opening Spreads at BetOnline.Ag:

UNC @ Miami Florida (+21.5, +18.5)

Virginia Tech @ Duke (-1.5, -3.5)

South Carolina @ Kentucky (pk, +1.5)

Utah @ Washington State (-1, -1.5-115)

Ohio State @ Penn State (+4.5, +3.5+105)

Iowa State @ TCU (-13, –12.5)

Florida @ Mississippi State (-8.5, -9)

Stanford @ Notre Dame (-2.5, -3.5-120)

*Ohio State opened up 4.5-point road favorites, and there was minor movement on the underdog, dropping to -4 (-120).  Penn State pushed the Buckeyes to the brink last year, losing 39-38 on the road.  As was the case last year, this will be a Top Ten matchup with explosive offenses.

*Florida and Head Coach Dan Mullen visit the Mississippi State Bulldogs, who are fresh off a road beating at the hands of the Kentucky Wildcats.  This game has only moved a half point toward the home favorite, whose had this game circled since the schedules were released.  With Auburn and a road trip to LSU on deck, this is a must win for the Bulldogs.

*In possibly the most intriguing game, the Stanford Cardinals, off an improbable victory at Oregon, now go on the road to South Bend to face undefeated Notre Dame.  Notre Dame lost on The Farm last year, so there is a slight revenge angle there.  How will Stanford respond from their rollercoaster win?  This line has moved through a key number early, and heading towards -4.

*The Los Angles Rams open 6.5-point home favorites for their Thursday Night Football matchup against the Vikings.  Many consider this a possible sneak peek at the NFC Title game, and we’ve seen a 1.5-point adjustment in favor of the Rams, as Minnesota was embarrassed at home by Buffalo.  It should be interesting to see where this number goes from here.

*The Kansas City Chiefs continue to tear up the sports betting market, covering in all three of their games by an average of 9 points per game.  They open 4.5 point road favorites against division rival Denver on Monday Night Football.  Can Patrick Mahomes and Andy Reid continue their efficient ways against a Denver defense that’s been susceptible through the air?
