NFL Week 2 Market Moves and Week 3 Look Ahead Lines

By Billy Attridge

Week 2 in the NFL can be one of the most telling for teams, the betting market, and hopeful fans around the country.  It’s also known for overreactions, especially when it comes to the point spread.  Let’s take a peak at some of the NFL games this week to decipher whether these lines are warranted, or may provide us with some opportunity.

Here are three Week 2 Line Moves to monitor leading up to kickoff on Sunday.

Arizona -7.5 (+105) @ Indianapolis:

Arizona opened -7.5 (-115), and we have seen some movement on the Colts thus far.  The big question for Indianapolis is who will be under center, Brisset or Tolzien?  Scott was a trainwreck gifting the Rams two scores last week and was fortunate there wasn’t a third.  Arizona is coming off a road loss to the Lions, where they led 17-15 going into the fourth before an epic meltdown on the offensive side.  This line over the summer with Andrew Luck the projected starter was Colts -3.  I would not be shocked to see professional money continue to enter the market on the home underdog, especially if newly acquired Jacoby Brisset gets the nod.

Cleveland @ Baltimore Over/Under 39 (-110):

This total opened at one of the key numbers in 41 (-110), and Tuesday we saw it dip down to 39.  Baltimore held Cincinnati to 3.8 yards per play and allowed them to record just 17 successful plays on 58 offensive snaps.  When Dalton wasn’t running for his life or picking himself up off the turf he was forced into numerous errant throws, providing the Ravens with a +4 turnover margin.  Cleveland travels to Baltimore (great home field advantage) with a rookie quarterback in Kizer making his first NFL road start, can he improve on a fantastic debut?  The Browns held a potent Steeler offense to 2.1 yards per rush attempt, and only 14 offensive points despite pressuring Big Ben just three times all game.  Professionals snatched a key number early in fear it wouldn’t be there as the week progressed, with Joe Flacco far from 100% don’t expect this number to sniff 41 again.

Minnesota @ Pittsburgh -5.5 (-110):

We saw this number open Pittsburgh -4.5 (-115), shoot up to -7 (-110), and settle back where it stands now -5.5 (-110) at BetOnline.AG.  Pittsburgh closed a 10-point favorite in Cleveland last week, and got off to a slow start offensively.  Minnesota looked excellent on offense with Bradford recording 10.3 yards per pass, and for the first time in while the Vikings appear to have help on the ground with Dalvin Cook.  With the short week, travel, and superior home splits for Big Ben I would expect this line to trend closer to the second move rather than the opening number.
